Water lines

Many water service lines in Rapid City and the surrounding area are made of Polybutylene piping. This piping has been proven to break down on a molecular level when it comes in contact with chlorinated water. It is not a matter of “if” this type of pipe is going to leak but “when”. In keeping with our philosophy to keep disruption and costs as low as possible, we implement a “pull” procedure in which:

1. minimizes the excavation spot required to access the water line in the yard
2. minimizes the access area inside the home
3. a new copper water line is pulled through the existing polybutylene water line, making this process possible

Although there are some conditions that limit the success of this type of technique, the occasional extra costs to make the project successful are typically minimal in relation to the open trench replacement costs outside the home and the concrete removal costs inside the home.
